TYPE: Variable fighter.

PROGRAM: Top secret variable fighter reportedly developed with Overtechnology obtained illicitly from the U.N. variable fighter development. (Details of this are unknown.) Like the VF-0, it is an advance trial production model equipped with conventional engines, developed before planned variable fighters with thermonuclear turbine engines. However, since it was planned from the beginning for actual combat, its practicality and stability in combat situations is higher than the VF-0's.

Due to its larger dimensions and mass, it has relatively more underpowered transforming actuators and longer transformation times than the VF-O's. Features high air combat maneuverability inherited from the Sukhoi design team's legacy, but a shorter cruising range than the VF-0's. To compensate for the short cruising range, it is often transported to the area of operation and launched underwater by a specially modified submarine aircraft carrier . Active stealth system with higher efficiency and output compared to the VF-0's system. Unlike the VF-0, it has VTOL capabilities without needing to transform from Fighter to GERWALK mode. Flown over the South Pacific Ocean one year before Space War I.

VARIANTS:
SV-51α (single-seat variant): Mass production type. An estimated 32 units manufactured. (12 have been modified.)
SV-51 (two-seat variant): An estimated 6 units manufactured.
SV-51γ: Specially tuned version for ace pilots.
[Note: Several units exists which have been modified for underwater launching capabilities from submarines. These units launch from a submarine at periscope depth to 30 m underwater by using rocket motors, and then fly after launch using standard turbojet engines. These units have been modified with improved waterproofing, pressure resistance, and folding wing construction to make them compact enough for stowage in the submarine launching docks.]

CUSTOMERS: Anti-U.N.

DESIGN FEATURES: 3-mode variable transformation system into Fighter, GERWALK, and Battroid modes. Main wing extends and retracts.

FLYING CONTROLS: Four-channel analog fly-by-wire (SDU-29 electronic remote control system), SBA-29 Battroid-mode control system, subordinate to the SAU-29 CNI system.

POWER PLANT: Two Aviadvigatel D-30F6X turbofan jet engines, each rated at 102.5 kN and 204.7 kN with afterburning, with variable nozzles that pivot 90 degrees down for VTOL flight in Fighter mode. Two VTOL fan jets in center fore in Fighter mode (operating as high-maneuverability jets in Battroid mode). Two micro-missile launcher/auxillary drop tank composite pods mounted on wingtip hard points. Option of two high-speed, high-maneuverability twin jet boosters equipped with Klimov RD-35A/R composite engines (capable of switching between turbofan jet and ramjet modes), each rated at 79.7 kN and 127.5 kN with afterburning (159.7 kN in ramjet mode) with variable nozzles on overwing hard points (installed for the final battle at the island of Mayan).

ACCOMMODATION: Pilot only. (A two-seat variant also exists.) Side-stick controller and multi-position throttle lever/stick. Two rear (back) mirrors.

AVIONICS: HUD. SPO-15C 360° passive radar warning receiver system. One APP-60 chaff and flare dispenser system. RP-51 active stealth system with antennae along circumference of nose (newly developed in Germany). SW-51 SWAG energy converting armor system, other equipment.

ARMAMENT: One (two in SV-51γ) fixed Gsh-231 12.7 mm mini-gun. One standard Gsh-371 55 mm gun pod with 120 rounds and one standard spare magazine stowed in unit's special aft gun pod rack. Six underwing hard points with four micro-missile launcher/auxillary tank composite pods (with 18 Turopov SA-19M I/IR-guided micro-missiles), two R-33D Amos+ medium-range maneuvering missiles, or a combination of the above. Two auxillary pods are normally mounted on wingtip hard points. Four auxillary pods and two Amos+ medium-range maneuverability missiles were installed at the final battle at the island of Mayan due to the Amos+'s great destructive power and the insufficiency of mico-missiles as a main armament (since the enemy was not just VF-0 but also the Bird Man). It has been determined that only four auxillary pods are used for combat at close range. Capable of mounting most former Warsaw Pact military standard aviation weaponry as well as an air blast bomb nicknamed "Daisy Cutter."
