Macross is a Japanese-animated science-fiction franchise that spans three television series, three theatrical films, five major video projects, and various spinoffs in print, audio, software, and other areas. The franchise began with the 1982-1983 television series, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Its most recent major project is the 2008 television series, Macross Frontier. One main characteristic of the franchise is its combination of robotic transforming vehicles (known as variable fighters), love-triangle relationships, and a focus on music.
