Construction of ARMD Series (Armaments Rigged-up Moving Deck) of space carriers begans at the L-5 manufacturing station 2003 April. ARMD-01 ARMD I commissioned 2008 December. ARMD I destroyed in the first battle of Space War I 2009 February 7.
ARMDs are space aircraft carriers which had a docking system for the SDF-1 Macross where it was expected to be used as a subsystem. Although originally developed as an orbital station for space fighters, it was incorporated into the Macross strategic system and modifications were made. A docking mechanism for Macross was put in place and increased armor plating, beam guns, and missile launchers improved the fighting ability. At the time of SDF-1 Macross space launching ceremony in 2009, the 3rd ship was commissioned and deployed to fight (8 ships would be launched) immediately following the appearance of the Zentradi.
Movie version
Although originally built as a support ship for space fighters deployed at the Lagrange points or geostationary satellite orbit, conversion of the ship to an aircraft operation platform for SDF-1 due progress on restoration of the alien warship which crashed on Earth played a vital role in the defense and offense of the ship. As forces were loaded into the SDF-1 strategic system, the ARMD rigs were remodeled for Space fighters and docked to the SDF-1 in December 2008. Although independent navigation is possible, this was not verified upon returning to Earth.
