From Macross Compendium
VF-X 2
How much of the VF-X 2 timeline should be added? --Azrael 20:15, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, there's no problem with adding more Macross VF-X2 information, as long as there are notes about the two routes that VF-X2 can take to acknowledge the different dates. --Egan Loo 21:44, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- The VF-X 2 Visual Guide seems to have a misprint. Mission 8 to Mission 9 lists the dates as Dec. 26, 2050 (Mission 8) and Jan. 16, 2050 (Mision 9). Does the game also have this typo? --Azrael 05:59, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'd have to dig the PS1 and the game out of storage to confirm that (in the midst of packing) as well as the two books I have on VF-X2 to confirm. Though, as it implies time travel, me thinks it be a typo. Sketchley 07:04, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Rules
I'm Gamlin from Macross World and I can update this section. Before editing anything in the chronology, I need some information. Only the canonical information (approved par Kawamori) should appear here and not the semi-canonical material?
response to question
If I understand things, the non-official setting (ie approved by Kawamori-san) should be added either in an alternative timeline (not sure if one has been created yet for this wiki) or added in the official setting timeline but with a notation on it's status (ie [square brackets and a description of which timeline it fits into]). --Sketchley 12:46, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Methodology
Ok.Here is my project and methodology. In fact there are 3 types of data: the information validated by SK, those not validated but tolerated (semi-canon) and those having problems (for example those become obsolete because of retcons but never officially cancelled).
These 3 types have to appear in my opinion on the same page but by specifying every time the type of information: - normal writing, nothing particular (canonical information) - between “[...]” (semi-canonical information) - between “(...)” for probably obsolete data and the justification.
For every entry I would like to specify the source of the 1st appearance and possibly if it is recurring or its possible variations.
For the choice of the strictly canonical information, I believe that it is necessary to consider that "all the sources having allowed to draft Macross Chronicle are the only ones to be canonicals (+Macross The Ride and recent sources)”. What are they? The show itself but also: Macross F the novel, Plundering fleet, the Two Lost Years, the PS1/Saturn/Dreamcast games, Perfect Memory Book, Variable Fighter Aero Report, some articles, the Advance Valkyrie Project. Maybe the Macross Plus Novel? I’m not sure, same for Minmay and Misa novels.
- Probably the most current version of the timeline is the one found in the Macross Chronicle. The validity of the other sources is still up for debate and Egan has not provided guidance on that issue. Ideally, it would be best to just pull the information from the Chronicle only and leave the rest off or in a separate section for the time being until Egan provides some guidance on how to proceed with other sources. Also, I have followed the old Compendium's format by bracketing "[]" and italicizing retconned information. --Azrael 19:09, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
- The most current version of the chronology is not this one and I'm here to correct it. I agree to introduce only the entries of Macross Chronicle, at first.
