Ranka Lee (ランカ・リー) is a short but lively, naïve but cheerful girl. She is the younger sister of S.M.S. ace pilot Ozma Lee. At Ozma's suggestion, she works part-time at the Nyan-Nyan Chinese restaurant while going to a girls' high school. She is a big fan of Sheryl Nome and had received concert tickets as a huge favor from her brother. She has loved to sing since childhood, and dreams of perhaps becoming a singer. After losing the Miss Macross contest, she was picked to replace the actress for Mao Nome in the "Bird Human" movie and quelled the riots on Gallia 4, earning the nickname, "Super-Dimension Cinderella" (超時空シンデレラ).
Ranka lost her real parents 11 years ago due to a Vajra attack on the 117th Research Fleet that Ozma was unable to stop. Ranka lost all her memories of that attack until the Vajra returned in 2059, and Ozma (who is not her real brother) has been protecting her ever since.

- According to Macross co-creator Shoji Kawamori, Ranka Lee's hair can move on its own since she is one-quarter Zentradi. There are some types of Zentradi whose parts of their heads move on their own, and some types whose hair moves like antennae. She inherited those genes.
