Macross Galaxy Variable Fighter Development Arsenal (Guld Works) VF-27 Lucifer
Contents
Program
- Manufacturer: Macross Galaxy Variable Fighter Development Arsenal (Guld Works)
Original development by the Macross Galaxy Variable Fighter Development Arsenal based on the YF-24 which Macross Galaxy developed and used as its main fighter. Although its combat performance easily exceeds the VF-25 Messiah, its high performance goes beyond what a flesh-and-blood body can withstand. Lineage from the silhouette of the VF-22 Sturmvogel II can be seen in the nose, hands, feet and the main wings are equipped with boosters which boast high mobility. Firepower is comparable to a VF-25 with Super parts. However, low airframe versatility has made it unsuitable for mass production. Data on the YF-29 was leaked intentionally by L.A.I. and affected its development. While the VF-27 demonstrated excellent armaments, development of Super parts were created with the objective of enhancing maneuverability and armor. In combat, the VF-27 exhibited abilities rivaling those of the YF-29 Durandal due to the control of a cyborg pilot handling the VF-27's complex trajectory and support from the Ghost V9.
It has improved efficiency from the design of the YF-24 and operation by a cyborg pilot is a prerequisite of its operation. It is treated as the YF-27 because the information was not disclosed to the New U.N. Spacy. Additionally, manned and unmanned variants are available yet the details have not been disclosed. Overwhelming combat performance is demonstrated in cooperation with Ghost V-9.
Variants
- VF-27β: Standard model. Available in commander and non-commander variants. The commander unit and the standard unit are said to have different heads.
- VF-27γ: Custom variant with performance tuned-up to design limits, exceeding the standard unit. (VF-27γSP with Super parts)
Design Features
ISC (Inertia Store Converter): MG development IVC/GC 01γ, Brain wave control system, developed from the YF-21's BDI system, is installed into flight controls and remote operation outside of the cockpit is possible. Virtual cockpit developed in secret with next-generation technology. A pilot with implants is seated while the real cockpit simulates transparency. Maneuvering is improved since the pilot feels as if one is flying through air. Armored canopy is protected with energy conversion armor. Canopy can be exchanged with a clear canopy for non-cyborg use. Clear canopy can be mounted beneath armored canopy. Linear actuators, similar to VF-25, reduces transformation time and fragile mechanisms by adopting an electromagnetic transformation system of non-contacting structures allowing smooth transformation. Four canard wings. Surplus output from the 4 engines, which exceeds the VF-25's performance, allows pin-point barrier and energy conversion armor to be used in fighter mode. Super pack with QF-5100D Goblin II.
- Landing Gear: Catapult link bar for carrier launch. Thicken column to support the impact of carrier landings.
Powerplant
- Four Shinnakasu/P&W/RR/MG FF-3011/C Stage II thermonuclear reaction turbine engine (in space, maximum thrust of 1,377 kN). A single unit of the FF-3011/C maximum thrust is slightly inferior to the VF-25's FF-3001A but exceeds the VF-25 since it is equipped with 4 engines. Cruise mode only uses 2 of the 4 engines and main wings serve as cooling system. Thrust vectoring is possible on main-wing engines with circumferential-moving nozzles.
- Circumferential-moving (3-dimensional) nozzles in the leg engines are equipped with thrust reverser.
- P&W HMM-9 High maneuverability thrusters.
- Optional new super fold booster developed by L.A.I. under secret development with improved speed and able to overcome fold faults.
- Super parts developed by Macross Galaxy Fleet's Guld Works mounted on the ventral section and leg units of the airframe. QF-5100D Goblin II can be mounted on the dorsal side of the airframe. Goblin II's output compensates for the additional weight of the Super parts. Performance equals YF-29 with this equipment.
Accommodation
One pilot with EX-Gear. EX-Gear functions as an ejection seat. The rear is equipped with an auxiliary seat. Auxiliary seat is a normal ejection seat.
Avionics
Brain wave control system. Control system links pilot's cranial nerves and airframe's central computer directly with optical circuit to reduce response time. Equipment, like displays, are omitted since information is sent directly to the cyborg pilot's brain. Manual controls are for emergency-use only. Energy converting armor.
Armament
Standard armament
- One Mauler ROV-20 20mm beam gun, mounted on head turret.
- Two Sentinel HBC/HS-35B 35mm heavy beam machine gun.
- Option of
- Two Remmington ES-25A 25 mm high-speed machine gun
- or
- Two Mauler ROV-25 25 mm beam machine gun
- One new BGP-01β Beam Gun pod / high-powered Beam grenade. It is later enhanced to a Heavy Quantum Reaction beam-specification for anti-Vajra combat. The main armament corresponds to both the 55mm rapid-fire beam gun and the hyper-grenade mode. Total length is 16.85m with a weight exceeding 3t.
- Four Bifors BML-04B internal micro-missile launchers
- Shield mounted on center rear dorsal fuselage in Fighter mode or on lower left arm section in GERWALK and Battroid modes.
- Retracting knife for close-quarter combat, stored inside shield.
- Pin-point barrier system
- Note: The 25 mm high-speed machine gun and micro-missile warheads are later refit with the anti-Vajra MDE-warhead specification. The beam gunpod is refit to MDE particle beam specifications. Armaments enhanced using Fold Quartz extracted from Vajra corpses.
Optional armament
- Optional packs
- Super pack. Arm pods armor each contain a built-in micro-missile launcher. Shoulder armor manufactured with Energy Conversion Armor II and built-in pin-point barrier booster. Engine nacelle pods contain reserve propellant tanks to extend operational time in outer space, twin micro-missile launchers and is manufactured with Energy Conversion Armor II. Energy Conversion Armor II power supplied from main aircraft. Super parts can be jettisoned with explosive bolts.
- One QF-5100D Goblin II unmanned reconnaissance fighter as a booster weapon unit mounted on the dorsal side in Fighter mode. "Goblin II" can separate from VF-27 and be remotely controlled through brainwave control.
