Macross Zero is the fourth animated Macross video series and the first animated Macross prequel. It was created by Shoji Kawamori and Studio Nue to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Macross, and is the first major Macross project since Macross Dynamite 7 in 1997. The story of Macross Zero takes place prior to the Zentradi invasion depicted in the first episode of the first Macross, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross.
